On Bruges: the perfect place // photo diary

Have you seen Shrek? Do you remember when Shrek and Donkey first visit Duloc, and there’s a welcome song that goes ‘Duloc is a perfect place’? Here’s a reminder:

Well, Bruges is Duloc: a perfect place. I spent last bank holiday weekend there with my Aussie gal pal, and it was just so picturesque it hurts. All it took was hopping on the Eurostar from London to Brussels, then another train and you’ve got the beer, chocolate, frites, canals, cobble stones, period buildings, and winding alley ways of glorious Bruges, Belgium.

I cannot recommend Bruges enough for a quiet, delightful weekend away. I’ve heard it’s even more spectacular at Christmas, but we really lucked out with the weather in May. Bruges is small enough that you can walk around, but beautiful enough that you could do that all day. If that doesn’t tickle your pickle, you can always take a canal boat, do a beer tasting, or catch some serenity in the gardens of the Benedictine monastery Benguinage.

And of course, watch In Bruges before you go, because “it’s a f*cking fairy tale town, isn’t it?”On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect placeOn Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect placeOn Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place DSC_0860 On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place On Bruges: the perfect place
